UNISON General Secretary election 2025 – get ready to vote!
All you need to know…
UNISON members will soon be invited to vote to elect our next General Secretary. This is an important election as the General Secretary is the most senior official of UNISON and acts as the public face for its 1.3 million members. The term of office is for 5 years.
The Tower Hamlets UNISON Branch Committee has nominated Andrea Eagan for General Secretary (photo below).
We’re backing Andrea Eagan because:
- Of her plan for ending the pay stagflation of the last 15 years
- She is an experienced former UNISON President and Branch Secretary
- Andrea will forgo the massive £181,000 package currently paid for the role. She will take the wage of a social worker. Andrea’s pay will go up when ours does.
- She will challenge Starmer’s Labour on decisions that hurt working people/public services. UNISON members will come first, not the Labour party.

How do I vote?
The ballot will run from 28 October – 25 November 2025. Your voting paper will be sent to your home address and needs to be returned in the pre-paid envelope. You cannot vote online. All full members who were on the membership register as of 28 July 2025 will get to vote (including Retired Members). If your voting paper does not arrive or you misplace it, you can request a ballot replacement from the 11 November by calling 0800 0857 857.
