Tower Hamlets UNISON Schools – Covid Safety Survey

We are asking all members to complete the following survey to help us get a clear picture of members’ views. Your responses will help us to put pressure on Local Government to take urgent steps to make schools safe.

Take the Covid Safety Survey

Please complete before Friday 27th November 2020.

UNISON has produced three key documents for schools members to use. Firstly, the union has produced an updated joint checklist (November 2020) alongside the NEU, Unite and GMB. This document should help you outline the minimum safety requirements for keeping schools open during the second wave of the pandemic.

UNISON stewards should read the document, circulate it to their members for information and use the model letter (also below) to approach their head teacher about implementing the steps in the joint checklist.

Model Letter for Improved Risk Assessment

The union has also produced a document to support members where managers/head teachers are instructing members not to use NHS Track and Trace app.

What if my workplace doesn’t have a UNISON rep?

Contact the branch office for support with approaching your head teacher. Please think about whether anybody at your school would be willing to become a UNISON representative, or workplace contact.

What if my head teacher doesn’t agree to meet the criteria outlined in the new joint unions checklist?

The union has a strategy for escalation in schools where head teachers refuse to take urgent measures to protect staff, students and the community.

We will need UNISON representatives to do three things:

  • Contact your union members at your school/nursery about when they would be able to attend a meeting on Zoom (the branch office can support you in organising a meeting).
  • Contact the branch office so we can support you in making a decision about escalation.
  • Fill in our Covid Escalation Form (for UNISON reps only, or after speaking to someone at the branch office).
