As in previous years this will be a “rolling” AGM with local meetings to facilitate
attendance – full details will be published. Any motions for debate
must be received by Friday 26th January 2024

Alternative meetings for those unable to attend main AGM:

  • Wednesday 6th March 2023 at 5-6pm on Teams
  • Schools AGM Thursday 8th March 5-6pm, in meeting room THC1 at Tower Hamlets Town Hall.

Nominations are sought for the following Senior Branch Officer posts

  • Secretary; Chair; Assistant Secretaries (up to 4)

Nominations are also requested for the following positions:

  • Treasurer; Health & Safety Officer; Communications Officer; Education Officer; Social Officer; International Officer; Young Members Officer; Welfare Officer; Retired Members Secretary; 2 Auditors; Equality Officer X 4 [ Women, Black members, LGBT+, Disabled members]; Environment Officer; Delegates for Local Govt & Annual Delegate Conference (both in June).

And for: The Rita Ash Solidarity Award
Nominations for these posts, along with an election address of up to 500 words for the senior posts and 200 words for the others, should reach the Branch Office by no later than 12.30 p.m. on Friday 26th January 2024.

All posts are open to job sharing. Elections for senior officers are by ballot. Elections for other posts will be held at the Annual General Meeting. For further information about any of these positions, call the Branch Office 020 7364 5302.

Brief description of roles:

BRANCH CHAIR Chairs Meetings.  Ensures that the UNISON National & Branch rules are adhered to.  Makes emergency decisions between meetings, subject to their later ratification.  Chairs Branch Management Group and will normally be a senior member of negotiating teams.

BRANCH SECRETARY This job would normally be on full-time release. Has overall responsibility for the running of the Branch.  The Secretary has a key negotiating responsibility for the Branch at senior management and councillor level.  They liaise with Regional Officials and solicitors and would normally represent the Branch at regional level.

ASSISTANT SECRETARIES – Take a portfolio responsibility for areas of work and policy. They play a key role in organisation and representation.

Conference delegations must reflect the gender and race make-up of the branch: one of the Annual Delegate Conference delegates must be a low paid woman and Young Member Proportionality must be considered.
DIRECTORATE CONVENORS – Senior Stewards. Play a key role in organisation, representation and mentoring stewards.
